Child Autism
Jenny is a twelve year old girl with severe autism. She was diagnosed at age 2 and we had her to
several doctors before Dr. Wang.
Jenny was extremely violent with outbursts almost daily. She didn’t sleep well, most nights not
going to sleep until 3 or 4 am. She would stare into space, then scream and throw things. Jenny
doesn’t speak so it’s not always easy to communicate with her. She used to hit and pull hair
when she was agitated. She’s been seeing Dr. Wang for about a year and in that time frame she’
s had her medication adjusted several times. She now behaves quite well with no more
tantrums. Jenny sleeps at night now and no longer screams or hits. She’s come a long way and
we’re quite pleased with the results.
Adult Finally Free From Psychotic Thoughts
August 2006
My name is Susan and I have a mental disability. I have been suffering with hallucinations since
the age of 5.
During the 90’s, I was hospitalized over twenty times up to and including 2000-2005. I started
seeing Dr. Wang in 2004. In 2005 he diagnosed me with schizo-effective disorder, meaning I
have some of the symptoms, but not all. Unfortunately the hallucinations affected my everyday life,
making a normal life impossible to live.
In august 2005, Dr. Wang introduced me to a miracle drug. This wonder drug cut my
hallucinations 99%, and for the first time in my life, I didn’t have to worry about seeing things that
weren’t there.
The name of this drug is Clozaril 100mg. From what Dr. Wang told me, doctors don’t like to use
this medication except as a last resort. To me, that’s just too bad, if Clozaril was administered to
me years ago, I could have had a normal life, not in and out of the psych ward.
I just can’t emphasize enough how wonderful this medication has been for me, and I thank Dr.
Wang for having the courage and knowledge to help me have a fulfilling and rewarding life at last.
Sincerely,
Susan
From Barely There to Loving Husband and Family Man
September 2006
Schizophrenia came knocking at our front door in February 1990. My husband, Jim was first
hospitalized at the Marian Center in Springfield, Missouri. His symptoms had been affecting him
for a few years before he was first hospitalized.
We got married in June 1988 at St. Agnes Cathedral in Springfield. During our courtship, I began
noticing some unusual behaviors about Jim. He would become paranoid, and would want to
isolate himself. Also, his motivation would be on and off. When we got married it was a joyous
time, a huge celebration! In the meantime though, Jim’s symptoms of Schizophrenia were
manifesting into additional signs of worsening. In April 1989 our only child was born, a girl. By
this time, Jim had been hallucinating, threatening, still paranoid, isolating, extremely moody, and
motivation was low. His schizophrenia was full blown. I didn’t know that it was Schizophrenia
until Jim had his psychotic break that lead us to the Marian center in February 1990. The crises
had been one too many and I initiated taking Jim to the Marian Center on my own for his first
psychiatric hospitalization.
Keep in mind that we were just starting a family and trying to maintain the needs of being a young
family with a 10 month old baby girl. Jim’s schizophrenia had maxed out the stress limits on our
immediate family. We were definitely at our wits end. Faith was becoming my best friend.
Jim’s first hospitalization brought some needed treatment and relief. His first psychiatrist met
with me in a small conference room and in 10 minutes told me Jim’s diagnosis 2nd some facts
about schizophrenia. He also referred me to NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill). As soon
as I got home, I called NAMI of Southwest Missouri. I explained my somewhat desperate
situation. I was met with comfort, understanding, knowledge, and friendliness. NAMI has been a
stronghold for my family since February 1990.
Jim’s first hospitalization signaled to both Jim and I, and family that we were dealing with a
medical diagnosis/condition that was and is treatable. The fact that Schizophrenia is treatable is
a miracle of modern medicine.
Since 1990, Jim has been hospitalized about 10 times and even 1 year in a residential setting.
He has had a handful of Psychiatrists. Each Psychiatrist has treated Jim with the respect that
anyone with a mental illness deserves. The doctors have given/prescribed Jim a slew of different
psychiatric medications to treat the schizophrenia.
Jim at last is functioning the best he ever has thanks to Dr. Colby Wang’s concise caring, and
accurate treatment for Jim. Jim is 48 years old now. His days are filled with interaction with our
daughter, family, friends, and me. Minus the extreme paranoia, isolating, unusual thoughts,
behaviors, lost in translation, communication, and low motivation.
The pluses of Jim’s life include high motivation, developing interests, spending time with family,
and for the most part feeling happy! The new medications that Jim is taking to maintain his
schizophrenia have proven to be the right formula for Jim. The combination is right. It is working
for our family!
Jim has a degree in Wildlife Conservation and Biology from MSU, which he will always carry with
him. He also has his life back thanks to the tireless efforts of Dr. Colby Wang. Jim loves our
daughter, me, and himself more than ever.
Dr. Wang is also my Psychiatrist and is turning things around for me personally too, with my Bi-
polar. The future is looking brighter and brighter. There is no turning back!
Because of Dr. Wang’s determination for our treatment and its success, we will always be
indebted to Dr. Wang for visualizing the possibilities of what lies ahead.
NAMI is also a big part of our lives. We have support, education, and advocacy trough NAMI. NAMI
is family too.
Our quality of our health has improved due to Dr. Wang and his vision. Thank you Dr. Wang.
Sincerely,
Karen
Hi, I'm Robin and I would like to tell you how Dr. Wang has helped me.
Before I went to Dr. Wang I was totally out of control. My ever day life seemed like a every day
struggle. Every day my life was like a whirlwind. I didn't know if I was coming or going. I couldn't
focus on one thing at a time. My mind went 90 to nothing. I rarely could finish not even on task.
My anger was horrible. I would blow up at the least little thing, I couldn't keep y anger under
control. Everything set me off. If I had to wait too long, if someone took too long in line I would go
off. I have no patience, I used not to have any patience.
Ninety percent of the time I couldn't remember half of what I did. It's awful living day to day and
forgetting what you did two days ago.
My every day was a struggle and it was awful. I couldn't even budget money I would spend it just
as soon as I got it. I had no to manage money which makes life even harder.
This disease is awful, And I suggest anyone who has this disease to go get help. It's not a joke.
Dr. Wang has helped me 100%. And if you want you can live to be even half normal then I
suggest you give Dr. Wang a call. He will help.
He will keep you on meds and change the ones that don't help until he gets it right and trust me
he will get it right. He's the best doctor I've ever had.
And trust me I had doubts. But I'm glad I hug in there and let him finally fix me. He made a 100%
difference in my life and I know he can you.
People thought I was a lost cause and now they tell me how different I am. How it's wonderful to
have a friend like me.
It can't hurt. Just trust and believe and he will help you. He's the best. I truly mean that.
