What is a good patient? • One who is willing to work in a cooperative way with me • Never forgets and always remembers the improvement that the doctor has affected with him • Optimistic when the going gets rough • Complete compliance • Remembers to remain reasonable and open to suggestions • Stays the course • Learns the doctor’s system • Does the hard and the easy tasks • Approaches the treatment endpoints like homework • Takes responsibility for paying and attending appointments regularly • Willing to take a leap of faith with the doctor • Exhibits good hygiene and dresses nicely
What is a good psychiatrist? • Exudes competence • Is direct • Studies new developments • Is not there to make you feel better but to help you get better • Smart • Not your friend but a perceptive, empathic human • Takes your improvement and his professional care very personally • Does not work harder than you do in order to help you get better • Explains things to your level of understanding • Makes the “criteria” real, i.e., emphasizes that agitated irritable behavior means road rage and rude behavior • Clearly explains the meaning and importance of boundaries • Unconditionally expects civility in the office to extend to the doctor, his staff and the other guests in the waiting room.
How should I get a hold of the doctor? You can call the office during office hours Tuesday through Friday. Go to the Contact Us page for phone and email contacts. Email is always preferred at admin@cwangmd.com
Can we treat you in a crisis? Yes, but you must call at 9am and pay upfront regardless of insurance for crisis intervention.
How much treatment is necessary? Enough and as much as is required to quell symptoms completely.
What is the goal of preventative psychiatry?
